Academic Calendar
The New School academic year consists of fall and spring semesters and a summer term. You can download the printable university calendars with
dates and deadlines for most undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs.
Academic Programs
The New School is the only university where a world-renowned design school, a progressive liberal arts college, a distinguished performing arts college, and legendary graduate programs
and colleges come together to seek out new ways to create a more just, more beautiful, and better-designed world.
Advising
Advisors have extensive knowledge of campus resources and will show your student how to navigate university systems and procedures. They also act as a liaison between your student
and other university staff and will acquaint your student with procedures for communicating with faculty and other academic leadership when policy questions such as academic integrity, grade appeals, and academic standing arise.
Campus Safety
The New School's Department of Campus Safety seeks to ensure that the rights of every member of the campus community are respected and that a safe and secure atmosphere exists in
all campus buildings.
Career Services
The Career Development and Experience office is dedicated to helping both undergraduate and graduate students at The New School make connections between their academic experiences
and professional paths.
Commencement
Held once each year at the end of the spring semester, Commencement is our most significant academic ceremony, in which our graduating students are awarded their degrees.
It serves as their official transition from New School students to New School alumni.
COVID-19 Community Guide
The health and well-being of our community and the neighbors with whom we interact are our top priority. Our COVID-19 Community Guide serves as a hub
to keep all members of our community informed of updates, policies, and protocols related to COVID-19.
Housing
Living on campus is an integral part of any college experience and an important component of academic success. Community living provides valuable opportunities to meet
new friends, make connections, and encounter new challenges in a safe and supportive environment. The mission of Housing and Residential Education is to improve students' learning experience by providing residential communities that support their
academic and personal growth.
Information Technology
Our Information Technology department is committed to providing students with a technology environment and services that supports the teaching, learning, and administrative needs of
the university community.
International Student and Scholar Services
The New School is home to more than 3,500 international students and research scholars from more
than 100 countries. Our staff is dedicated to providing students and scholars with immigration support services and programs so that they can succeed in achieving their academic and career goals.
Libraries
The New School Libraries provide access to collections, services, and spaces sufficient in quality, depth, diversity, format, and currency to support the research and teaching missions of The
New School.
Meal Plans
The New School dining program prides itself on serving chef-created, diverse, healthful foods. Its mission is to provide real farm-to-table food that promotes the health of our students,
community, and planet.
New Student Orientation
Orientation is designed to introduce new students and families to all of the resources and opportunities available to New School students as they start
their journey at the university. Students meet the faculty and staff who are here to support them and begin to build academic and social communities with new classmates from around the world.
Student Disability Services
The New School seeks to foster an environment that encourages all students to reach their highest level of achievement. In keeping with this philosophy,
Student Disability Services is committed to helping students with disabilities obtain equal access to academic and programmatic services.
Student Health Services
Student Health Services provides medical, psychological, and wellness support services to our students year-round. The mission of our office is to enhance the
health and well-being of students to foster their learning and success.
Student Leadership and Involvement
Student Leadership and Involvement supports The New School's educational mission by creating opportunities for students to have rewarding interactions
and make connections outside of the classroom.
Student Support and Advocacy
Student Support works with students to help them navigate non-academic challenges, distressing experiences, and crisis situations.
We listen to students' concerns and work with them to develop a support plan. As student advocates, we offer various forms of support to students and the New School community.
Study Abroad
Studying abroad is an enriching educational experience that exposes students to new ways of thinking and helps establish intercultural competence. Studying abroad also fosters
students’ independence and personal accountability. Planning is key, and parents and other family members play an integral role in helping their student successfully prepare for their study abroad program.
