Overview
The Contemporary Music minor is offered through Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts.
Part of the interdisciplinary Arts curriculum at Eugene Lang College, the Contemporary Music program explores the global diversity of today's music through a broader study of music history, theory, and criticism and the evolving technologies used in composing,
producing, performing, and listening. This liberal arts curriculum emphasizes innovative musical thinking and music making in The New School's tradition of progressive education and experimentation in the arts.
Curriculum
The minor in Contemporary Music requires completion of five courses, distributed as shown below, totaling a minimum of 18 credits. Only two 3-credit music courses can be counted toward the minor. Course availability may vary from semester to semester. Explore
fall 2024 Contemporary Music courses.
Courses should be chosen carefully, in consultation with the director of the program. Students must receive a grade of C or better in all courses taken to fulfill the minor.
Eligibility
Minors are available to undergraduate students across The New School. Students majoring in The Arts (BA The Arts) can enroll in any minor of their choice, including an Arts minor in a discipline different from the one already being studied in their major.
Please meet with your Student Success advisor to discuss how a minor will fit in with your overall degree requirements. If you have additional questions questions regarding this minor's curriculum, including requests for course substitutions, please contact
Clara Latham, Program Director and Departmental Faculty Advisor for Contemporary Music, at [email protected].
