    Academics

  • Established in the fall of 2015, the College of Performing Arts brings together an iconic century-old conservatory, Mannes School of Music; the legendary School of Jazz and Contemporary Music; the innovative and groundbreaking School of Drama; and two interdisciplinary master’s programs.

Here students can move between disciplines and test the limits of their artistry as they reinvent tradition, engage with social issues, and develop the entrepreneurial skills needed to become 21st-century performers. Personalized training from world-class faculty helps them develop their creative and technical skills and their identity as artists and citizens.

  • Mannes School of Music

Internationally recognized for musical and pedagogical excellence, Mannes holds a reputation as one of the most progressive schools of its kind, thanks to a curriculum that teaches students what they need to know, understand, and be able to do as 21st-century musicians.

  • School of Drama

At the School of Drama, we combine rigorous training with creative experimentation. Learn to express yourself authentically and confront pressing societal issues through the making of theater, film, and emerging media.

  • School of Jazz and Contemporary Music

This center for progressive, inventive artists offers a distinctive artist-as-mentor approach to learning. Work one-on-one with the world's leading contemporary and jazz musicians to develop your identity as an artist.

  • Arts Management and Entrepreneurship (MA)

The MA Arts Management and Entrepreneurship program is designed specifically for practicing performing artists. Students acquire skills that enable them to reinvent existing cultural organizations or launch their own arts-related enterprises while mastering their craft.

  • Performer-Composer (MM)

The Performer-Composer Master of Music (MM) program was created for instrumentalists and vocalists who make work as performers, composers, and improvisers in a range of settings and genres. Students engage in holistic experimentation and create original modes of expression that consider the past, present and future of musical artistry.
