Overview
The Film Production minor is offered through the Schools of Public Engagement.
The minor in Film Production helps students develop a practical hands-on understanding of how to create a short film from conception through to completion.
Course availability may vary from semester to semester. Some courses may be in development and offered at a later time. Students seeking to pursue alternative coursework to fulfill the minor should consult with their advisors. Students interested in this
minor are encouraged to begin the coursework in their sophomore year in order to fulfill all requirements in a timely fashion.

It is recommended that students completing the Film Production Minor also take NFLM 3411 Art of Film concurrently with NFLM 3600 Filmmaking Studio 1.

Learning Outcomes
By successfully completing this minor, a student should be able to demonstrate:
- Technical and conceptual skills necessary for the planning, production, and editing of short film (digital or 16mm shooting format, digital exhibition format)
- Familiarity with the operation of 16mm and HD cameras, supports, audio, lighting, and grip equipment and ability to deploy these tools appropriately
- Basic practical understanding of film stock, film speed, lenses, and principles of exposure, basic lighting, and audio recording
- The ability to use editing/post-production software
- An understanding of professional protocols and a demonstrated ability to work on crews and collaborate on the production of a film project
